Brey's Appendix Part II

Brey was in serious pain and left work to go straight to the ER on Friday. The radiologist discovered that Brey had a blockage in his intestines and that his appendix was 'normal'. They scheduled Brey for Saturday morning surgery (laparoscopically- 3 small incisions around his belly).
During the surgery they found his appendix was causing blockage (chronic appendicitis) so they removed it. They also found out that scar tissue from the rupture was also causing constriction around his intestines, so they snipped it. He is now recovering at home.

Here is an answer to common questions I get:
WHAT HAPPENED IN DECEMBER??
In December Brey was released from the ER at Doctors' West Hospital. Given only pain medication and told to see a urologist because of where the pain was. We chose a Mount Carmel Hospital affiliated urologist. He saw Brey immediately and gave him something for infection (that Doctors' Hospital West should have done). The antibiotics seemed work but the pain got worse and he went to the ER after the urologist suggested to do that. They found out that his appendix had ruptured and that is why he had intense pain (early onset appendicitis) and then no pain because once the appendix burst it doesn't hurt for a couple days but then pain comes back as body decides that was a bad thing.
He was treated with heavy antibiotics and pain medicine at the hospital. After 6 days he was released.

WHY DIDN'T THEY REMOVE THE APPENDIX IN DECEMBER??
They didn't remove the appendix in December because his body was healing. If they had done surgery they would have likely made an incision 6-8 inches and pulled out his guts, cleaned them, and had to remove a portion of his colon. All leaving a greater chance for infection and a much, much longer recovery than the 6 days of antibiotics.
